Pastoral soundscapes, celestial overtures bless our winter-weary ears

Mantras--simple words repeated in worship, praise and petition to God. Such expressions have been sung on this planet for probably as long as there has been a voice to sing them--human or otherwise.

Adriene Wentworth is a healer, channeler and teacher who has produced a CD that presents ancient mantras of the Vedantic tradition in an updated, new age musical setting.

Assisted by composer/keyboardist Rob McWilliam, Wentworth reverently chants nine sacred songs dedicated to states of spiritual consciousness and members of the Hindu pantheon, such as Rama, Krishna and Ganesha.

Although the chant melodies sometimes have a traditional melodic flavor, the usual, devotional accompaniment of tamboura, harmonium and drum has been replaced and modernized. Composer McWilliam provides a nice variety of natural elemental sounds and orchestral synthesizer backdrops.

"Durga" has a spacious, serene feel to it, punctuated by the sound of rain, wooden flute and etheric strings. Peaceful "Rama," like a sweet lullabye, would be a good choice before retiring to a night of heavenly dreams.

Wentworth presents nine ancient mantras which are empowered with rhythmic and upbeat melodies to create music designed to heal and protect those who listen. These mantras, combined with various instruments including piano and flute, will replace negative energies with protective fields. They are also designed to eliminate stress and help you stay centered and positive...and are especially helpful to those who have lost hope and essence. Wentworth's voice is very soothing in itself. She is the creator of The Christa Healing Method and this CD is designed to enhance healing work. Upon listening to this for the first time early one morning, I felt more alive and hopeful about the upcoming day. It is very inspirational!

I was feeling rather tired by the end of the day, the late afternoon dip in energy. So, I checked out the CD's in my box. Picked Adriene Wentworth's "Water in the Eyes of Time" out of the stack.

I'm feeling much better as the powerful strains of ancient mantras float in my office. I love this CD, it energizes me and calms me at the same time. Music for the soul and the psyche in a busy world.
